Job Description

Overview

2025-2026 High School Social Studies Teacher (1 year position) at Mount Pleasant Community School District. This role includes meeting the academic, physical, and socio-emotional needs of students to enhance learning and support the school community.

The teacher will utilize developmentally appropriate practices, create a positive learning environment, and establish positive relationships with staff and parents.

Essential Duties and Functions
  1. Meet eight Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria on a consistent basis.
  2. Establish and maintain standards of child behavior to create a safe and orderly teaching and learning environment.
  3. Create a learning environment based on current and appropriate research.
  4. Provide whole group, small-group, and individual instruction designed to meet the needs of each child.
  5. Develop daily and long-range lesson plans aligned to the district curriculum and instructional materials.
  6. Teach the district approved curriculum using district adopted instructional materials.
  7. Implement developmentally appropriate instructional practices and approaches.
  8. Evaluate children's intellectual and social growth, keep appropriate records, and assist in preparing progress reports.
  9. Provide immediate and specific feedback to students regarding their academic progress.
  10. Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss a child's development and interpret the school program.
  11. Maintain professional competence through participation in building and district staff development activities.
  12. Participate in team and building meetings as well as projects and parent-related activities.
  13. Establish and maintain a professional working relationship with support staff.
  14. Supervise students in out-of-class activities during the assigned work-day.
  15. Fulfill conditions in the negotiated agreement.
  16. Assume other duties as assigned.

  • Iowa Teaching Certification with endorsement in content area

Working Conditions
  • School Hours: Indoor/outdoor; Evenings and Weekends may be required
  • Terms Of Employment: Work year as established by the Board of Directors; salary per district schedules
